We provide to you our latest Giant mountain bike and our enthusiastic guides. Start from Paro through Thimphu, Punakha, Bumthang, Mongar and Trashigang to Samdrup Jonkhar, to the south exiting through Guwahati, the Indian state of Assam. As you ride through these amazing places in Bhutan, you will experience the difference between rural and urban Bhutanese life, meet children and people of various parts with their own unique culture and get to experience astounding beauty of the Himalayas right in front of you. You will also be crossing several passes in the course of this biking trip. Bhutan takes its environmental polices seriously and is guided by “Gross National Happiness”, so this trip is all about sharing happiness and staying healthy in a sustainable way with a dash of adrenaline. Day 01: Fly to Paro, Bhutan
Take a flight into the Paro, Bhutan. Meet our tour guide and driver, check into your hotel and relax. Depending on what time you get in Paro, you can stroll around Paro town as it has a great artistic and historic vibe. Visit the Paro Fortress and National Museum. Dinner, rest and overnight stay at hotel as we look forward to an amazing day hike tomorrow.
Day 02: Paro (Tiger’s Nest) – Thimphu (Cycling to Thimphu optional)
(65Km 1 Hour) + (55km 1 Hour)
Rise and shine! Today is our first day of biking. To get our gears on, we will be riding from the hotel to the Base of Tiger’s Nest (Paro Takshang). Park our bikes at the base and enjoy a challenging yet moderate hike up to Tiger’s Nest. It takes around 2-3 hours uphill and 1-2 hours downhill depending on your experience of hiking. Get on your bikes at the base and ride to Paro for Lunch. In the afternoon, we ride to Thimphu, the capital city of Bhutan which would be about 1 ½ hours or you can choose to take a ride in our back up vehicle to Thimphu if you feel too tired to bike. We stay overnight in Thimphu.
Day 03: Thimphu Sightseeing
Wake up in Thimphu and have a sumptuous breakfast. After which, we start our expedition in and around Thimphu. Meet our team at the lobby and start your day of exploring Thimphu on a bike with visits to Buddha Dordenma, one of the Biggest Buddha Statue in the World, Memorial Stupa, Painting School, National Library, Changangkha Temple, Craft Bazaar, Centenary Farmers Market and Tashichho dzong(A fortress as well as the office of His Majesty the King of Bhutan) Your overnight stay will be in Thimphu.
Day 04: Thimphu – Punakha Cycling (70 Km 3-4 Hours)
Today we leave for Punakha valley through Dochu La Pass. The ride for today can be challenging until we reach the Pass. Dochu La Pass is beautiful in its itself with 108 stupas resting atop a hill with blooming rhododendrons around and it also offers a succinct yet beautiful view of the Himalayan Mountain ranges, with many famous peaks in the visibility radar. Here, we will make a short stop for snacks. From the Pass the road descends till Punakha. We ride to Chimi Lhakhang (temple) which is dedicated to Lam Drukpa Kuenley and ride further to visit the picturesque Punakha Dzong (fortress). Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Punakha.
Day 05: Punakha – Gangtey Cycling (65 Km 3 Hours)
Early morning leave for Phobjikha valley, a beautiful wide valley with its share of plains and winter roosting site of the Black Necked Cranes. The ride will be challenging until we approach Lawala Pass, then on, the road descends till Phobjikha valley. On the way, stop to visit Gangtey Goenpa(Monastery). Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Phobjikha.
Day 06: Gangtey – Trongsa Cycling (125 Km 4-5 Hours)
Today we follow the same route as we did to get to Lawa la Pass, which is uphill and challenging and descends slightly towards the highway. We ride on the highway towards Pele La Pass. After crossing the pass, the road descends down till we reach at our lunch spot. Stop for a hot lunch. If you can’t ride further, then you may jump into our backup jeep / truck. Visit to Trongsa Dzong (fortress). Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Trongsa.
Day 07: Trongsa – Bumthang Cycling (68 Km 3-4 Hours)
We are moving towards Bumthang today. It is an uphill ride until we reach to Yotong La Pass. On crossing the pass, the route is then a gentle descent to the stretch of Chumey valley. After crossing Chumey valley, the road gradually climbs up until we reach to Keki La Pass with a slight decent, we reach Bumthang valley, a beautiful, quaint and historic village, also one of the most beautiful valleys in Bhutan. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Bumthang.
Day 08: Bumthang Sightseeing / Cycling
Today we will explore Bumthang valley on our mountain bikes. Visit to Jambay Lhakhang (Monastery), Kurje Lhakhang and Tamzhing Lhakhang. After lunch, visit Jakar Dzong and explore around Chamkhar town. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Bumthang.
Day 09: Bumthang – Mongar Cycling (198 Km 7-8 Hours)
We leave the cold beautiful valley of Bumthang today and start our journey to Mongar, a warmer place with beautiful vegetation. The ride is going to be challenging as the route is a varying alternation of ascents and descents. On our way we cross the beautiful Ura valley in Bumthang. We take a short rest at Thrumshing La Pass, ride for sometime then we stop for lunch at Sengor. Lunch stop before continuing our venture to Mongar crossing Gyeposhing right before we reach our destination. If you are not able to ride till Mongar, jump into our back up vehicle. Check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Mongar.
Day 10: Mongar – Trashigang Cycling (91 Km 3-4 Hours)
Our ride today will be uphill until we cross Koria La Pass on the way to Trashigang. The weather is pretty calm usually along this route with lemon grass bushes above or below the road and beautiful spots for resting. The road descends for Yadi town from Kori La Pass. We reach an iconic bridge alarming us on our proximity to Trashigang and that is the Chazam Bridge. The road then begins to climb up till we reach to the hotel. Tashigang is a small and compact little town in the east of Bhutan. Stroll around here then we dine and stay overnight at the hotel.
Day 11: Trashigang – Samdrup Jongkhar (180 Km 7-8 Hours)
Today we have to start early on our ride as the distance is long. The ride will be difficult and challengingly uphill until we reach Yonphula then the road descends all the way to Samdrup Jonkhar which to the south of Bhutan. This is an amazing ride if you happen to embark on this adventure in autumn with a kaleidoscopic view of colorful falling leaves.
Today being the last day of the ride in Bhutan, we will end the ride with a farewell dinner. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel in Samdrup Jongkhar.
Day 12: Samdrup Jongkhar – Guwahati (Departure) (110 Km 3 Hours)
Our Indian counterpart will take over your onward journey to Guwahati in Assam, India (closest airport from Samdrup Jongkhar) for your flight to back home.
