Merak &Sakten Bhutan Motorcycle Tour: An Epic 14-Days Himalayan Adventure Travel Itinerary

Day 01: Arrive Guwahati – Samdrup Jongkhar, Bhutan (110 Km, 3 Hours)
Once arrived at Guwahati Airport / Railway station, you will be met by our tour guide from the company and then drive to Samdrup Jongkhar for an overnight stay. Upon reaching at Indo Bhutan border, complete visa formalities at Indian immigration checkpoint and then drive into Bhutan and complete immigration formalities for Bhutan and check into the hotel.Evening check your motorcycle and take a familiarization ride around the Samdrup Jongkhar town. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 02: Samdrup Jongkhar – Bhangtar ride (68 Km, 3- 3 ½ Hour)
Morning, we will start with a short distance ride to Bhangtar, the small remote village located towards southeast part of Bhutan under Samdrup Jongkhar district, which is very close with Indian border town of Assam. It is approximately 48Km drive from Dewathang and 68 Km from Samdrup Jongkhar main town. The people living in and around the Bhangtar valley who daily depend on agriculture life such as rice cultivation, arecanut farming and fish farming. The Bhangtar has many activities to offer to the travelers including the Bhutan Golden Mahseer fly-fishing tour along the stretch of the Nyera-ama chu (river) and best spot for bird watcher besides our regular Bhutan motorcycle tour package. In the evening, visit to local farmhouse and try self-cooking program. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 03: Bhangtar – Trashigang Ride (230Km, 6-7 Hours)
After early breakfast, depart for Trashigang district. Enroute to small Martshalla village. Our ride will climb uphill unless we cross the Brokpala Pass. Stop for a short while at the Pass for  breathtaking view of India and overlooking Bhangtar valley. During the clear weather, you will be able to witness the plains of India from the pass. Later, we descend down to Sarjung school and then cross the bridge for Gomdar. After crossing the bridge, the road climbs uphill making it more interesting and memorable ride where winding road goes through middle of the beautiful countryside of remote Bhutan. Few stretch, we will be doing off-road ride until we reach to national highway. Stop for a lunch at wamrong or enjoy picnic lunch. Check into the hotel. Evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 04: Trashigang – Merak Ride (67 Km, 3 Hours)
After completing morning breakfast, ride for Merak. Today we will enjoy picnic lunch. Later, explore around the Merak village. In the evening, witness and enjoy folk dance program. Dinner and overnight stay at local farmhouse.

Day 05: Explore Merak
Today we will spend full day exploring exotic Merak village. Dinner and overnight stay at local farmhouse.

Day 06: Merak - Sakten Ride ( 65 Km, 2-3 Hours)
After morning breakfast, we ride back to Rangjung and then take diversion for Sakten which is about 2-3 hours ride. Later, explore Sakten village. In the evening mingle with local people of Sakten. Dinner and overnight stay at local farmhouse.

Day 07: Explore Sakten
Today we will spend whole day exploring remote Sakten. Dinner and overnight stay at local farmhouse.

Day 08: Sakten – Trashigang – Mongar Ride (160 Km, 4-5 Hours)
Today we will ride back to Trashigang and then ride further to Mongar for an overnight stay. Stop for a hot lunch at Trashigang. After lunch, we will continue our ride for Mongar crossing Yadi town and Korila Pass. Today, our ride is going to be more fun and adventurous. Check into the hotel. Evening at leisure and stroll around Mongar town. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 09: Mongar – Bumthang Ride (192 Km, 6-7 Hours)
Today we will check out early for Bumthang also known as little Switzerland of Bhutan via Thrumshing La pass (3,780m) and beautiful Ura valley. After breakfast, we descend down for Lingmethang which is 7Km away from the Mongar town. The lingmethang is a small town under Mongar district in the eastern part of Bhutan. After crossing the Lingmethang, the road traverse the beautiful paddy field and then the road climb uphill until we cross highest Thrumshingla pass. We will stop for a hot lunch at Sengor. After lunch, we ride continue for Bumthang for an overnight stay. Check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 10: Bumthang – Trongsa – Phobjikha Ride (180 Km, 6-7 Hour)
After breakfast, we gear up for lush Phobjikha valley via Yotongla Pass (3,425m) and giant Trongsa Dzong(fortress) The Phobjikha is a U-shaped glacial valley situated at the mean altitude of 3,000m under Wangdiphodrang district. On the way, we will enjoy picnic lunch. Take a short stoppage at Trongsa view point. We ride continue for Phobjikha valley. check into the hotel. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 11: Phobjikha – Punakha – Thimphu Ride (168 Km, 5-6 Hours)
Before we ride further to the capital city of Bhutan, we stop to visit Gangtey Gonpa or Gangtey Monastery is a monastery of Nyingmapa School of Tibetan Buddhism which was
established in 1613 by Pema Lingpa’s grandson. After a quick visit to the Gangtey monastery, we continue for Punakha valley. Visit to Punakha Dzong(fortress) The Punakha
Dzong(fortress) also known as Pungthang Dewa Chhenbi Phodrang, is serve as administrative centre of Punakha district which was constructed by Ngawang Namgyal, the
1 st Zhabdrung Rinpoche in 1637-1638 and it is second oldest and second largest dzong in Bhutan. After the sightseeing, stop for the lunch at Punakha. After lunch, ride continue for Thimphu via Dochu La pass(108 stupas) Stop at the Dochula pass(3,100m) for quick photography break. Again, the ride will descend down for Thimphu and then visit to Buddha Statue. Check into the hotel. Evening at leisure or stroll around Thimphu town. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 12: Thimphu – Paro Ride (Iconic Tiger’s Nest Hike) (65 Km, 1 ½ Hour)
Ride early to Paro for Tiger’s Nest hike which takes about 70-80 minutes ride from the capital city. It takes about 2-3 hours hike to reach the Temple and while coming back it take about 60-90 minutes. Evening at leisure. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 13: Paro – Phuntsholing Ride (160 Km, 4-5 Hours)
Before we ride down for Phuntsholing, the Indian bordering town, spend sometimes visiting to Ta Dzong(museum), Kichu Temple and Paro town. We will enjoy lunch at Paro and then leave for Phuntsholing for an overnight stay and it’s our last day ride in Bhutan. Check into the hotel. Evening stroll around. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 14: Phuntsholing – Bagdogra (Departure) 160 Km, 4-5 Hour)
Our team will transfer you to the Bagdogra airport for your onward flight to back home. Your memorable Bhutan motorcycle tour ends here.
